Requirements:
A) MySQL Installed (Local or Remote) 3.23.x or
4.x
B) Java JRE installed on IPnote Server Machine
Download J2SE JRE at this link: SUN JAVA
JRE
After you have met the requirements and you have
downloaded the package IPnoteV2_trial.zip, the installation can begin. Once you
have extracted the archive, you will have 3 programs available to
you.
- Setup-IPnoteE2-Server.exe (The IPnote Server
Program)
- Setup-IPnoteE2-Admin.exe (The Admin
Console)
- Setup-IPnoteE2.exe (The client
application)
We will be installing the Server Program first as
we need to establish the IPnote Server and connection to the MySQL database
before anything.
Once you have determined where you will install the
IPnote Server and you have met the requirements, we can now begin to start the
IPnote Server install.
Installation
Locate the program file Setup-IPnoteE2-Server.exe
(make sure you have Java JRE 1.4.x and a MySQL database installed prior to
running setup program). Double Click on the Setup Program to begin the
installation.

Select Next.

Accept the terms of the license agreement and click
next.

Select the location where you would like IPnote to
be installed or leave the default which is C:Program FilesIPnote
EnterpriseServer

Next Click Install.

You have now completed the installation. Click
Finish to configure your IPnote Server.
Server Configuration
When you launch IPnote Server for the first time
you are missing the configuration file. This next step will help you create the
configuration file for the IPnote server to run.

You will see the above dialog when the IPnote
Server starts for the first time. Click yes to begin the configuration
process.

The first tab is the database tab. Here you will
fill in the information where your IPnote database is.
Host
If the database resides on the same computer you
can leave it as localhost or if the database is remote, then you can enter in
the IP address of the remote MySQL server.
Port
Port you can leave as default unless you have
changed it.
User
As the description says, enter a user that has
rights to create a database and tables.
Password
Enter in the password that belongs to the User
account you entered in previous.
Network/Heartbeat

Heartbeat
Poll Clients value represents how often the IPnote
server checks for the remote client. Value is in seconds.
Retries before notify. This value represents how
many retries (client checks) the server will attempt before sending out an
email.
Network
Bind Server Port. By default the server
communicates with the clients on port 2001. This can be changed.
Bind Admin Port. By default the Server communicates
with the admin console on port 2002. This can also be changed.
SSL Key file. Server Client communications are done
using SSL. This is the keyfile and passphrase. You should not change
this.
Mail
These are the settings for the Notify email alert.
Whenever a client that was previously reporting in begins to stop reporting in,
IPnote server will send out an alert email notifying the admin that the specific
client has failed to report in. Settings are also based off the Heartbeat
section we described earlier.
User List

Clients
This is the list of client username and passwords
(clients are referred to as the IPnote clients). More than one client can report
in using the same username. You can create your own or use the pre-existing
ones.
To add users, click on the "Add Client" button.
Type in the username you would like to use and click enter. Click inside the
password field and enter in the password for that user and click enter. (Always
remember to click enter after inputting the username and password or the
information will not get saved.
Administrators
This is the list of administrators that can log
into the console. Multiple users can use the same admin username, but keep in
mind that if a admin makes a change, it would not be immediately reflected on
the other consoles until they refreshed.
To add users, click on the "Add Client" button.
Type in the username you would like to use and click enter. Click inside the
password field and enter in the password for that user and click enter. (Always
remember to click enter after inputting the username and password or the
information will not get saved.
